An Irish pirate, history relates,

Was scuffling with some of his mates,

When he slipped on a cutlass

Which rendered him nutless

And practically useless on dates!

Last weekend’s FREE SATURDAY AFTERNOON BLUES SHOWCASE was a huge success. LONG LIVE THE GLORY and THE HANDSOME GRAINS both delivered great sets to a packed house.  Emcee, Jeff “Redbeard” Corbett was in his glory enjoying his namesake dessert, Redbeard’s Chocolate Caramel Cinnamon Bun Cheesecake! Can’t wait to do it again next year!

Two years ago Vladimir Putin lied to the world and ordered his Russian soldiers amassed on the Ukrainian border to invade. He said he had simply gathered his troops to conduct military exercises and that he had no intention of entering Ukraine. He waited until the Olympic Games were over and then advanced his troops. The world was in shock at how an act so heinous could take place in this day and age.
The brutality and disrespect for human life displayed by the Russian soldiers as well as their leader came into sharp focus. Thousands of casualties have taken place on both sides including innocent civilians. Eastern cities in Ukraine have been extensively damaged or completely destroyed. Over six million refugees fled the country, while an estimated eight million others were displaced as a result of this “special operation.”
The severe impact of Putin’s war caused a global economic disaster. It came at a point when the world was attempting to recover following two devastating years of the pandemic and businesses were facing uncertain supply chains as they tried to meet resurging demand for goods and services. Russia’s attack on Ukraine placed a further squeeze on critical food and energy supplies. This was the result of reduced output from both countries and sanctions on Russia. Costs climbed triggering inflation rates that far outpace wage growth. This cost of living crisis has diminished the health and wellbeing of people around the world, especially for the poorest, and increased the risk of famine.
Your Bushwakker, like many restaurants, has been struggling to find qualified employees since the pandemic. Putin’s war ultimately brought many Ukrainians to Canada and even to Regina. We are very fortunate to currently have five employees from Ukraine working in our brewpub. In a time when good help is hard to find, they have proven to be valuable additions to our team. We look forward to the day when the war is over and they can return home. But in the meantime, we are very proud to have them in our Bushwakker family. Slava Ukraini!

TIME OUT

A good Irish man, John O’Reilly, met regularly with his toastmasters club.

One evening they were hitting the Guinness Stout and having a contest as to who could make the best toast.

John O’Reilly hoisted his beer and said

“Here’s to spending the rest of me life between the legs of me wife!”

That won him the top prize for the toast of the night.

He went home and told his wife, Mary, “I won the prize for the best toast of the night.”

She said, “Aye, what was your toast?”

John said, “Here’s to spending the rest of me life sitting in church beside me wife.”

“Oh me that is very nice indeed, John,” Mary said.

The next day Mary ran into one of John’s toasting buddies on the street corner.

The man chuckled leeringly and said, “John won the prize the other night with a toast about you Mary.”

She said, “Aye, and I was a bit surprised meself!

You know, he’s only been there twice!

Once he fell asleep and the other time, I had to pull him by the ears to make him come!”

Our Pre-St. Patrick’s Day Party is Saturday, March 16th. Yes, there will indeed be Our Green Shamrock Ale available and a special Stout Aged Irish Whiskey too!
