BREWERY “HOPP”ENINGS:  Bushwakker Head brewer, Michael Gaetz, reports that our brand new LEMON LIME TART is now on tap, in our offsale and available for growler fills too. Our seasonally available Hefeweizen, SUMMER WHEAT, and our KAI’S MUNICH HELLES are also currently flowing. In addition to taking our beer home in glass bottles and 2-litre jugs direct from our pub, you can find a varying selection of 650 ml bottles of Bushwakker beer in a number of REGINA SLGA stores.

New Bushwakker Fruit Beer – LEMON LIME TART! We were delighted to be a part of the Regina Health Care Workers Scavenger Hunt earlier this week. These folks have been providing an incredible service during the pandemic. The hospitality sector is particularly in your debt. Team “Johnny Depp” were some of the first folks to try our brand new LEMON LIME TART! The name says it all. A super refreshing summertime treat! Enjoy while quantities last!

Thank you Regina! Of the dozen wins we received in the 2022 Best of Food Regina Awards, the BEST NACHOS IN REGINA category is one that reflects what we are all about. Nachos are comforting, fun, made for sharing and go great with beer! We take our nachos very seriously. We hand-cut our tortilla shells and then carefully fry the chips and when building a Bushwakker nacho we are careful to ensure there are alternating layers of veggies and cheese throughout the nacho. Convection oven cooking ensures crisp chips and proper cheese melting throughout this “undefeated Best of Food Regina” appetizer!

Scottish Brewery Tests the Effects of Piano Music on Fermenting Beer

From The Brewers Journal Canada

Edinburgh-based Bellfield Brewery has teamed up with Pianodrome to run the experiment of playing piano to fermenting beer to study if it affects the taste.

Sean Logan, a member of the company, has played a wide selection of his music to two batches of new beer  – Resonancy IPA and Resonancy Pilsner- now in the fermentation tanks at Bellfield’s brew house.

Research has shown that the sound of the keys makes yeast grow faster, alcohol production is increased and aromas are enhanced.

The research – published by the US National Library of Medicine – states that ‘Specifically, aroma compounds associated with citrus notes were upregulated with the application of sound’.

At the end of the brewing process, Bellfield plans to hold a blind tasting with trade and industry experts including staff and students from the International Centre for Brewing and Distilling at Heriot-Watt University, Master Brewer, David Smith (B.A. (Chem), FIBD, Dipl.Brew) and a panel of beer writers.

They’ll taste the two Resonancy beers alongside conventional brews of the same beers to establish whether and how the piano music played during the brewing process has affected taste and aroma.

“We’re excited to discover how this musical partnership affects the yeast and fermentation process – and ultimately the taste and aroma of the two beers,” said Bellfield’s CEO Alistair Brown.

“We’ve already witnessed Sean give one live performance in the brewhouse, so we’re expecting great things as this collaboration progresses.

“We greatly respect Pianodrome’s ethos of inclusion and community focus, which chimes strongly with our own.”

The ‘Resonancy’ beers will be on draught in The Pianodrome Lounge throughout the Pianodrome ‘Resonancy’ at the Old Royal High, which runs July-11th September 20.

TIME OUT

Life and beer are very similar – chill for best results.

If you put root beer in a square cup, do you get beer?

There’s an icebox where my heart used to be.

I needed more storage for my beer.

If beer, coffee, or a nap can’t cure it, you’ve got a serious problem.

I spilled a beer on this girl at a party and that’s “How I Wet Your Mother”.

If you can’t drink and drive, why do you need a driver’s license to buy beer?

Alcohol is never the answer… but it does make you forget the question.

Love has four letters, but then again so does beer!

We call it “Saskatchewan Day” of course!
