BREWERY “HOP”PENINGS! Bushwakker Head brewer, Michael Gaetz, reports that one small keg of Double Honey Irish Red Ale and one large keg of Irish Coffee Stout will be tapped on St. Patrick’s Day. Our seasonally available Red Currant Ale, Chinook ESB and 30th Anniversary American Barleywine are currently on tap! There are also 13 other year round brews to choose from making a total of 16 Bushwakker brews currently available.

 


St. Patrick’s Day will be here next Wednesday!  Although there will be no Irish entertainment this year, we will have delicious Irish food and drink available both in-house and to go. Our MARCH PREMIUM WINE FEATURES are from the Luigi Bosca Winery in Argentina. The red is the La Linda Old Vines Malbec. The white is the La Linda Sweet Viognier. Both are $7.95 for a glass and $21.95 for a half litre.

This Weekend’s Special Dining Feature on March 12th and 13th is a CHICKEN SOUVLAKI PLATTER for $19.95. Our Saturday CLASSIC STEAK & A PINT SPECIAL for $21.95 will also be available.

The Bushwakker LOCAL ARTIST WALL for the month of March features the works of CRISTIAN BARRENO. Cristian was born and raised in Guatemala, a country known for its deep roots with the Mayan Culture. This rich heritage influenced and inspired Cristian since he first started painting using oils and acrylics. His family also played an essential role in Cristian’s interest for art since his father was a stone carver and his mother did colorful embroidery on clothes for indigenous people. Cristian gained these initial concepts of dimension and color from the work his parents created. Thanks to the help of his brother, Cristian moved to Canada in 2002 and pursued a bachelor’s in business administration from the University of Regina. Since his first weeks in Canada he continued developing his passion for painting and drawing. His themes and colors have constantly evolved, maintaining vivid colors, nonetheless. In each work he tries to achieve storytelling or at least provoke a happy smile. Cristian’s works are now part of private collections and can also be found in places like the First Nations University or in downtown Regina as part of the Urban Canvas Project. He is honored to see the recognition he has gained in Regina, and plans to continue exploring this skill and encourage others to try creating art. Enjoy his colourful works all this month!

BUSHWAKKER “NEW NORMAL” NOTES

We appreciate your business very much! Due to our greatly reduced seating capacity, we ask that customers limit their dining time so as many people as possible can comfortably enjoy our Real Saskatchewan Brewpub Experience, especially if we have a line-up! Thank you for your co-operation and support.

We are very appreciative of the considerable increase in the number of our takeout food orders. Every little bit helps during these challenging times. Because we do not have many tables to spare for customers to use while they wait for their takeout orders, we kindly ask you place your orders ahead of time by calling us at 306-359-7276 so that we can have your order ready upon your arrival. We have added additional waiting spaces in our back common area. Just stand on a red “X” and we will bring your takeout order to you as soon as it is ready. We also can provide curbside pickup. Just let us know when you will be arriving at out back door and we’ll run it out to you. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

We ask that our customers do not alter the position of our tables. We are required by the Saskatchewan Health Authority to have our tables placed three meters apart. We have measured the correct spacing so that we can maximize the numbers of tables present while complying with this health order. Thank you for your understanding and co-operation. It has been quite an adjustment to see our number of tables be reduced from a whopping 64 to a mere 19. Nevertheless, we remain grateful for being allowed to offer in-house dining during this challenging time.

Our Hours of Operation are Monday to Thursday from 11:30 AM until 9:00 PM and the kitchen closes at 8:00 PM. Fridays and Saturdays we open at 11:00 AM and close at 10:00 PM. Kitchen closes at 9:00 PM. We are still closed on Sundays at this time. Our takeout food and beer services will continue to be made available.

Reservations are accepted and encouraged.  We accept reservations as late as 6:00 PM from Monday to Saturday. Call at 306-359-7276 to secure your table. Please note under the new provincial guidelines the maximum number of people who can be seated at the same table is now limited to four. Larger reservations must occupy more than one table and maintain three meters of physical distancing between each table.

World Beer Index 2021 Reveals the Price of Beer in Each Country

For over 7,000 years, beer has been a part of people’s lives through the good times and the bad and although fewer people have been able to grab a beer at their favourite bar or restaurant these days due to the global pandemic, the desire for suds continues to flourish.

Expensivity recently revealed their World Beer Index which compares the average price of a bottle of beer across 58 countries all on one detailed map. Additionally, they have also indicated which countries spend the most on beer per capita, and just how much beer people really drink based on calculations researchers found on the average price of a typical bottle of beer (330ml).

In Qatar, for example, patrons will have to spend $11.26 for a single beer, mainly since in 2019, the country introduced a 100 percent excise tax on top of the previous sales price of all alcohol imports.

On the other end of the spectrum, South Africa came in with the lowest average beer price at $1.68 per bottle.

When it comes to which countries spend the most on beer, Germany comes out on top with nearly $2,000 of expenditures per capita. Germany is also known to follow the Reinheitsgebot method of brewing – centuries-old purity laws that broadly state that beer may contain only three ingredients: water, barley and hops.

Second to fall behind Germany is Poland, which spends $1,738 per capita, while the U.S. ranks eighth in the world for the highest spending on beer per capita at $1,554.

When it comes to how much each country drinks per annum, the Czech Republic emerges on top with 468 beers on average in a year— approx. 1.3 beers per day. Spain and Germany follow with 417 and 411 beers, respectively.

Research found that people living in Haiti only drink about four beers per year mainly due to 97 percent of alcohol consumption in the nation coming from spirits such as rum.


TIME OUT – The Aging Process & Male Behaviour

Two guys grow up together, but after college one moves to Maryland and the other to Texas.
They agree to meet every ten years in Vero Beach Florida to play golf and catch up with each other.

At age 32 they meet, finish their round of golf and head for lunch.
“Where you wanna go?”
“Hooters.”
“Why Hooters?”
“They have those broads with the big racks, the tight shorts and the gorgeous legs.”
“You’re on.”

At age 42, they meet and play golf again.
“Where you wanna go for lunch?”
“Hooters.”
“Again?  Why?”
“They have cold beer, big screen TVs, and side action on the games.”
“OK.”

At age 52 they meet and play again. “So where you wanna go for lunch?”
“Hooters.
“Why?”
“The food is pretty good and there’s plenty of parking.”
“OK.”

At age 62 they meet again.
After a round of golf, one says, “Where you wanna go?”
“Hooters.”
“Why?”
“Wings are half price and the food isn’t too spicy.”
“Good choice”

At age 72 they meet again.
Once again, after a round of golf, one says, “Where shall we go for lunch?”
“Hooters.”
“Why?”
“They have six handicapped parking spaces right by the door and they have senior discounts.”
“Great choice.”

At age 82 they meet and play again.  “Where should we go for lunch?”
“Hooters.”
“Why?”
“Because we’ve never been there before.
“Okay.”

 


We had an exciting day in the Bushwakker kitchen last week! We are pleased to have the talented film crew from Regina’s Subtle Cinematics working with us. They captured some great images of Chef Mike, our kitchen team and our award-winning pub cuisine! Can’t wait to see the final video.
