MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL AIRPORT ADDS CRAFT BEER EMPORIUM, MAKES FLYING SUCK LESS
BY LOREN GREEN FEBRUARY 4, 2016 Need more signs that there is goodness in this world? The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is converting a former Chili’s restaurant into Stone Arch Craft Lab, a craft beer bar and restaurant with more beers on tap than the TSA has confiscated shampoo bottles. The new concept is formally named “Stone Arch. food.CRAFT.beer” and will open in early to mid-summer with 25 taps, a 44-seat bar, and a 112-seat dining room. Minnesota Craft Brewer’s Guild is responsible for selecting the beers and chef Bill Fairbanks of Barrio is developing the menu. Diners can expect made-from-scratch cooking with local and sustainable ingredients, and a to-go shop for sandwiches and takeout options. Drinkers can expect a delicious, local way to make the gate agent's caw disappear into a buzzy, golden haze. The lineup will regularly feature 20 beers. Another five beers will be offered in the “Craft Lab” where brew masters and beer experts will educate interested travelers, in coordination with the Guild. Aero Service Group, which will operate the Stone Arch bar and restaurant, also operates airport beer station DuClaw Brewing Company in the Baltimore/Washington Airport. The new bar/restaurant is part of MSP’s larger remodel, which will include a music venue restaurant from the owners of craft beer pub Republic, as well as a Smack Shack outpost and a doughnut shop by Angel Food Bakery.
BREWERS ASSOCIATION SENDS AMERICAN CRAFT BEER TO PAYTON MANNING
By CraftBeer.com Staff February 10, 2016 On Sunday, the Denver Broncos took the Super Bowl 50 title, and Peyton Manning took home his second victory in football’s biggest game. Congratulations to The Sheriff on a game well played and a win well deserved. And while the feat did indeed earn Mr. Manning the right to kick back with his teammates for a beer or two, the seemingly shameless plug of the World’s largest beer company made many in craft beer land confused. Wouldn’t he rather have a beer more fitting of his superstardom; maybe a beer that more closely represents the Broncos’ status as an underdog? That’s what we believe small and independent craft brewers represent. So, the Brewers Association (publishers of CraftBeer.com) put together a care package for the talented quarterback in hopes of helping him find another post-game refreshment. Since Peyton happens to play in one of the most beer-centric states in the nation, we made sure to include a good number of beers that were local to Colorado in addition to a few other classic and approachable options from around the country. Along with the beer, we included a letter of congratulations and appreciation for his hard work. We hope you enjoy the beer, Peyton!! Peyton’s care package included: Black Bavarian (German-style Schwarzbier) | Sprecher Brewing Co. | Glendale, WI Apricot Blonde (Blonde Ale) | Dry Dock Brewing Co. | Aurora, CO Craft Lager (American Lager) | Upslope Brewing Co. | Boulder, CO Colorado Kolsch (German-style Kolsch) | Steamworks Brewing Co. | Durango, CO Racer 5 IPA (India Pale Ale)|Bear Republic Brewing Co.|Healdsburg, CA Samuel Adams Boston Lager (Vienna-style Lager) | Boston Beer Co. | Boston, MA Mojo IPA (India Pale Ale) | Boulder Beer Co. | Boulder, CO Sawtooth Ale Nitro (Extra Special Bitter) | Left Hand Brewing Co. | Longmont, CO Session Cream Summer Ale (Cream Ale) | Full Sail Brewing Co. | Hood River, OR Graham Cracker Porter (American Porter) |Denver Beer Co. | Denver, COTIME OUT
Three women die together in an accident and go to heaven. When they get there, St. Peter says, "We only have one rule here in heaven: don't step on the ducks!" So they enter heaven, and sure enough, there are ducks all over the place. It is almost impossible not to step on a duck, and although they try their best to avoid them, the first woman accidentally steps on one. Along comes St. Peter with the ugliest man she ever saw. St. Peter chains them together and says, "Your punishment for stepping on a duck is to spend eternity chained to this ugly man!" The next day, the second woman steps accidentally on a duck and along comes St. Peter, who doesn't miss a thing. With him is another extremely ugly man. He chains them together with the same admonishment as for the first woman. The third woman has observed all this and, not wanting to be chained for all eternity to an ugly man, is very, VERY careful where she steps. She manages to go months without stepping on any ducks, but one day St. Peter comes up to her with the most handsome man she has ever laid eyes on ... very tall, long eyelashes, muscular, and thin. St. Peter chains them together without saying a word. The happy woman says, "I wonder what I did to deserve being chained to you for all of eternity?" The guy says, "I don't know about you, but I stepped on a duck!" Twenty-eight years ago, MacGregor, a proud Scot, was drafted by the Army. On his first day in boot camp, the Army issued him a comb. That afternoon, an Army barber sheared his head. On his second day, the Army issued him a tooth brush. That afternoon, an Army dentist yanked several of his teeth. On his third day, he was issued a jock strap. The Army is still looking for him.Our New Fresh Pasta Weekend Feature is Mushroom Lasagne. $16.95 (Beer Pairing: Sodbuster Brown Ale).
