Oct. 31: NOTHING FOR HALLOWE’EN (official first edition). It’s been quite a few years since we presented our annual Celtic Hallowe’en parties. And truth be told, we have seen a much larger turnout when we don’t present anything special for Hallowe’en. So we’re making it official with our first ever Hallowe’en non-event. Come relax at YOUR Bushwakker this Friday night and leave your costume at home. Boo!

Nov. 5: MONTHLY ALES HOMEBREWING CLUB MEETING. This month’s presentation topics will be Browns & Smoked Beers and Small Batch Brewing. Nov. 5: Wednesday Folk Night. ELL ‘O’ ELL & THE NEW BOHEMIANS. The folkiest folk act to ever perform on a Bushwakker folk night returns. 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM.
Nov. 6: CANADIAN FAMOUS COMEDY TOUR. We presented our first stand-up comedy show last spring and it went so well we are doing it again! Different comics this time but they are still from out east (Toronto and NYC) with some high profile performances under their belts. Should be a great evening! Nov. 7: FIRST FIRKIN FRIDAY! Don’t miss this decades-old Bushwakker monthly tradition. A piper from The Regina Police Services Pipes & Drums leads a keg (the firkin) of special ale throughout the pub in a procession. A guest volunteer tapper is selected to wield the handmade wooden maul affectionately named, The Mighty Firkin Wakker, and attempts to tap the keg in one mighty blow! This month’s firkin offering is a CHOCOLATE CHERRY PORTER! The suds-soaking spectacular takes place at 5:30 PM.
Nov. 8: RIDERS HOME PLAYOFF GAME. We are pretty excited about Team Green securing the Western Final Home Playoff Game! We won’t know who the worthy adversaries will be until November 1st. But be sure to stop by YOUR Bushwakker before, during or after the game and park in the free huge parking lot down the street before swinging by for our gourmet RIVAL BURGER & A PINT Special. Business owners cite communication issues as Dewdney project nears end
The Dewdney Avenue Corridor Revitalization Project is expected to be fully completed next year.

REGINA — As the Dewdney Avenue Corridor Revitalization Project is near completion, some business owners have been unhappy with the city’s communication.
The Dewdney revitalization project began last April, and Mark Heise, CEO of Rebellion Brewing, says dialogue with Regina officials has been lacklustre in year two.
“We don’t even know how to get to the brewery some days because the road closures are not being communicated.”
Heise noted the backside of the brewery is accessible by taking either Hamilton Street, Cornwall Street or Scarth Street.
“In the last two weeks and especially on Saturday, [the city] actually changed the access multiple times during the day.”
Heise emphasized this creates confusion and an overall bad experience for customers, which can impact sales.
Sales for Rebellion Brewing this year have been “okay”, said Heise.
Heise estimates putting in tens of thousands of dollars in ads, sales or other marketing methods to ensure people are aware the brewery is open and have a reason to stop by.
As for other businesses along Dewdney, Bushwakker Brewpub has seen better dialogue with the city this year compared to last.
Bushwakker Brewpub bar and marketing manager Grant Frew said he met with approximately 10 different people from the city, the warehouse district, and Wappel Construction in the spring.
Frew is also in constant contact with city officials who answer his concerns within a day or two.
Business for Bushwakker Brewpub has been down over the past two years, with ongoing construction, and Frew said they’ve been losing out on tourism in the summer.
“When people are new to Regina and they see that Dewdney Avenue is totally blocked off, they simply avoid the area altogether.”
Bushwakker Brewpub has posted updates on the progress of Dewdney to their social media, along with videos to ensure customers are aware their business is open and how to get there.
Excitement for businesses
Both Heise and Frew said Dewdney’s transformation looks “amazing.”
“It is super exciting. Even just having some of the sidewalks on our side of the street open and some of the lights at night being lit up now,” said Heise.
“Just walking out our front door and stepping on those massive, beautiful paving stones and the new sidewalk and seeing the center boulevard and the new asphalt. It’s such a transformation,” said Frew.
Heise said he’s already seen an increase in foot traffic as sidewalks along Dewndey Avenue have been completed.
“That’s proof in the pudding. People love this stuff. It’s beautiful. It’s going to create a great ambience.”
The city estimates Dewdney will reopen before winter, and finishing touches on the project will occur next year.
TIME OUT
A man walks into a bar one night.
He goes up to the bartender and asks for a beer.
“Certainly, sir, that’ll be 1 cent.”
“One penny?” exclaimed the man.
The barman replied, “Yes!”
So, the man glances over at the menu, and he asks, “Could I have a nice juicy t-bone steak with fries, peas and a salad?”
“Certainly sir”, replies the bartender, “But all that comes to real money.”
“How much money?” inquires the man.
“Four cents!” he replies.
“Four cents?” exclaims the man. “Where’s the guy who owns this place?”
The barman replies, “Upstairs with my wife.”
The man says, “What’s he doing with your wife?”
The bartender replies, “Same as what I’m doing to his business.”
The warm October weather has been great for the Dewdney Avenue autumn construction season. But we all know how quickly the weather can change in Saskatchewan. Let’s get ‘er done!
