A number of our customers have been inquiring as to how server Cailly has been getting along since she embarked into motherhood. We are pleased to share that little Evie is doing fine and was born on September 20th coming in at 5 pounds 15 ounces of non-stop joy. Papa Cory doesn’t look tired at all!
We presented our first stand-up comedy show last spring and it went so well we are doing it again! Different comics this time but they are still from out east with some high profile performances under their belts. Should be a great evening this Thursday, November 6th! OCTOBER PREMIUM WINE FEATURES: This month’s featured Red is TIERRA RICA Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile and the White is ED EDUARDO DOUBLE OAK Chardonnay. We’ll see if the ABC (Anything But Chardonnay) club still has a forceful membership held over from the late 80’s to mid-90’s when over-oaked chardonnays caused a huge backlash in the wine world! Both are $8.95 for a glass and $23.95 for a half litre.

‘It’s going to be beautiful’: Bushwakker manager excited for Dewdney revitalization to wrap up

Construction on Dewdney Avenue is nearing the finish line – a welcoming thought for a manager of Bushwakker Brewpub, which is on 2206 Dewdney Ave.
Road access to Dewdney has been restricted due to work on the two-year Dewdney Avenue Corridor Revitalization Project.
Manager Grant Frew said this has resulted in fewer customers walking through the restaurant’s doors.
“It has been tough, definitely slower. This has had a definite impact on our business,” Frew said.
“We’ve been playing it day by day, week by week. We’ll have a few good days that’ll help carry us along, so it’ll be nice when this is all done and we can get back to business as normal.”
Although the project has hurt business, Frew said he’s still very excited to see what the street will look like when it’s finished.
“It’s been a long two years, but all of the underground excavation work is now completed on the Dewdney Avenue Revitalization Project. So now what they’re doing is all cosmetic work: the nice paving stones, the trees, the lighting and the new asphalt on the streets,” Frew said.
“The full set of lights right on our corner with a pedestrian crossing – that’s going to be great. So it’s really nice to see everything coming together, it gives us a sense of optimism.”
The City of Regina said the work will be complete by the end of the city’s construction season.
Frew said this year’s construction has been much faster than last year’s, and he’s happy that things are keeping on schedule.
Bushwakker and many other Dewdney businesses have still been open since the project first began, but Frew said they’ve had to battle the misconception that they’ve been closed since Dewdney itself was closed.
Customers are still able to access the businesses by travelling south from Eighth Avenue.
“We’ve been open for business all along. It’s been our huge legion of Bushwakker fans that have been keeping us going, but we’ve been missing out on all the tourists. They haven’t come by because the main access road has been closed,” Frew said.
“We’re really looking forward to having tourists back. And I think when this is done, both the residents and the tourists will come to view the area, because this is going to be beautiful. It’s going to be something to see; it’s going to be a huge boost for Regina tourism and the area businesses.”
TIME OUT
A man walks into a bar and asks the bartender for a shot of 15 year old scotch. The bartender thinks, “This guy doesn’t know 15 year old scotch from water”. So he pours some cheap whiskey for the guy, who throws back the shot and spits it out all over the bar. “No, Damn it!” yells the man, “I want 15 year old scotch, not this house crap.” The bartender wants to test him now and gives him a shot of six year old scotch. The man drinks it and spits it out. “That’s six year old scotch. I want 15 year old scotch!” So the bartender pours a shot of 9 year old scotch. The man drinks it and spits it on the bar. “Look, I’m not asking you again! I want 15 year old scotch, not the 9 year old!” So the bartender finally gives the man 15 year old scotch. He drinks it down and says, “Finally! Thank you. That’s very good.” The drunk bum sitting next to the man is amazed. He leans over and says, “I’ve never seen anything like that before.” The bum hands him a bottle and says, “Here, try this.” The man drinks a big swallow and immediately sprays it all over the place. “What the fuck is that?” he splutters. “It tastes like piss!” The bum hiccups and says, “Yes, it’s my piss. Now, how old am I?”
They certainly do! Especially when considering “old and ancient” whisky is the theme of this year’s 35th Bushwakker Scotch Tasting event.
