The August BUSHWAKKER LOCAL ARTIST WALL features GORDON BLACKMORE!
Gordon W. Blackmore is motivated to make; from furniture design and build, to beekeeping, sculpture, painting, and most recently, printmaking. Gordon has a farm boy confidence to tackle the challenges presented. His most recent pursuit is studies in visual arts at the University of Regina.
Blackmore finds inspiration in the prairie environment. The lines seen in fields beg a closer look; Gordon wants to use printmaking to give the audience that opportunity.
The printmaking process through the matrix, inking, presswork, and printmaking machines appeals to his character. Printmaking techniques used by Blackmore include intaglio, relief, silkscreen, stone lithography and letterpress. Gordon has been fascinated with printmaking, from high school mimeograph, to laser and inkjet party invites and business communication.

Birthday boy Mark conducted a firkin tapping master class at last week’s First Firkin Friday event! Tap the firkin in one mighty blow? Mission accomplished! Dewdney Avenue businesses contend with large holes as revitalization continues

The ongoing major Dewdney Avenue revitalization project is continuing into its second year – with the replacement of century old pipes below the pavement leading to large excavations in the area.
Numerous businesses in the area and their customers have been negatively impacted and parking has been a big challenge.
Grant Frew, the manager of Bushwakker Brewpub, says the pace of construction seems to be faster this time around and communication with the city is also improving.
He also says that tourists tend to be avoiding the extensive construction zone, meaning fewer customers this summer.
Big holes are regularly being dug deep into the ground to get at the old pipes and other infrastructure.
Several large pieces of heavy construction machinery are working right in the heart of the city.
“This is a once in a lifetime experience. For one to be able to sit in the Bushwakker Brewpub and look out the front windows and see these huge prairie mountains of building material, and mud and soil, and to see some of the huge holes deep into Dewdney Avenue … it’s quite the spectacle,” Frew commented.
“It’s something worthy of viewing whilst enjoying a pint I believe.”
The $32 million revitalization project will be mostly completed by the end of this year’s construction season with finishing touches such as shrubs and benches set to be installed in the spring of 2026.
TIME OUT – Folk Festival Fallout
Four first-year students partied too hard during a folk music festival weekend and were unable to make it back for their final exam the next day.
As they drove back to the university, they tried to think of a good excuse. Finally, they agreed to the same story: a tire was blown in the middle of nowhere at midnight so they were stuck. They each sent the professor an email asking to retake the exam and gave the excuse. The understanding professor said its fine and asked them to take it the next day, but for fairness they would have to take a different exam.
The next day they came to the exam room, and as per usual procedure, each obtained a copy of the exam and sat in a corner. The classroom was big and empty and the professor sat and watched them, so they were nervous. Fortunately, the questions on the first page are fairly easy. Even though these questions were only worth 10/100 points, it calmed them down a bit. So they quickly finished the first page at the same time and turned to the second page. There was a single question on it:
