Dewdney Avenue Construction on Track to Meet Deadline
By: Katherine Ludwig, Global News Regina
Construction along Dewdney Avenue is well into its second year and local businesses along the street have had to come up with workarounds in order to welcome customers and deal with parking.
But it’s become a collective effort to make sure that it all works as smoothly as possible.
“Well, what we did is we invested in renting the parking lot across the street with some of the other businesses and tenants in the Strathdee building and I think it’s been a great investment.”
Grant Frew with Bushwakker says the city also repaved the parking lot for free to help support the building’s businesses. Despite the ongoing construction for the last two years, Frew is optimistic it will be done on schedule later this year. Until then, he’s admiring the views.
“To look out the front window of Bushwakker and to see a massive excavator on top of this mountain of mud, is absolutely incredible.”
Mark Heise with Rebellion agrees that it’s interesting to watch.
“The piles of dirt are impressive. There was actually another pile of dirt even closer to us. It was an enormous pile and disappeared instantly. It is unbelievable to see.”
Despite the spectacle, business has continued to be slow along Dewdney Ave but steady enough.
“It’s been a little unpredictable. Overall, I think it’s a little bit better than last year. Our customers seem to know how to navigate the area and find us” said Frew.
Heise added, “We’re coming up on four full months and there’s no end in sight yet. I would say I’m really proud of the work we’ve done to actually keep people coming in the door over the last four months and we’re very, very thankful to all our customers.”
The city said in a statement that the work is set to be completed by the end of 2025 but some minor work may still need to be done in the new year.
When the project is complete, Dewdney Avenue will have wider sidewalks, brand new roads, streetlights and greenery, which the businesses I talked with say they’re very excited for.
TIME OUT – Beer Musings
They say there is more to life than beer… but who is they and why should I trust them?
Every loaf of bread is a tragic story of a group grains that could have become beer but didn’t.
When I drink water it has to be filtered through a brewery first.
By now, the beer should know enough to come out of the store when I honk.
If you take the word “milk” and change only four letters, you get “beer.”
Dinosaurs had no beer… how did that work out?
You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy beer… that’s kind of the same thing.
Beer is made from hops. Hops are plants. Therefore beer = salad.

Not a fan of Sour Beers? No problem! Our August 1st firkin of STRAWBERRY SUMMER WHEAT SOUR should have some nice German wheat beer yeast banana character which will mesh nicely with the sweet strawberries which combined will “tame the tart!” See you at 5:30!
