Bushwakker head brewer, Michael Gaetz, reports our seasonally available MISSILETOW CHRISTMAS ALE, MORK’S MEAD, JUST CHERRY ALE, POWERHOUSE PORTER, TREPHINATION IMPERIAL IPA and BREW & GOLD DORTMUNTER EXPORT LAGER are currently available. There are also batches of PICKARD’S OATMEAL CREAM STOUT, KAI’S MUNICH HELLES and DOUBLE HONEY RED ALE currently working their way through the brewery.

JANUARY PREMIUM WINE FEATURES: This month’s wine features are the MIRAFLORES wines from Chile. The red is a CABERNET SAUVIGNON and the white is a SAUVIGNON BLANC. Both are post-holiday season priced at only $7.95 for a glass and $21.95 for a half litre.
And then there was one! We started our Mead Season with three unique mead offerings. We are now down to our Mork’s Mead as being our final mead still available on tap. But fear not! There are still bottles of 30th Anniversary Blackberry Mead available in our offsale and if you really have your heart set on a bottle of Three-Year Aged Blackberry Mead, there are an extremely limited number of bottles available as part of our final few remaining Holiday Mixed Six-Packs.
Many folks resolve to temper their imbibing of fine drink every new year. Much thanks to assistant brewer, Bradley Dalrymple, for installing a brand new shiny Sarsaparilla tap earlier this week. Many a Bushwakker fan absolutely love this intense root beer flavoured non-al soda. We also have you covered with a large selection of non-al beers and a tasty kombucha too. No need to any longer sacrifice flavour in the name of moderation!
The Bushwakker LOCAL ARTIST WALL for the month of January features TIM GREIG.
Tim retired from a supportive role in healthcare in 2017. Formerly of the Dauphin RM in Manitoba’s Parkland, Tim and his wife purchased a home in Moose Jaw in 2022. Tim paints with acrylics on canvas and shows his work with the local art guild. In 2025, his themed show, “The Afterlife” will tour rural and northern Manitoba. In October, 2025 his work will be exhibited at the Shurniak Gallery in Assiniboia.
This art display has two themes with 3 works for each subject. The art works displaying family life are part of a larger series documenting nearly seven decades of living. The second grouping is a homage to three artists whose work the artist admires: S.Dali, E. Munch and F. Bacon.

This month’s lecture is presented by Dr. Chris Yost, Vice-President of Research at the University of Regina. Dr. Yost will showcase the University’s research potential and highlight how research is woven into its tapestry.
Editor’s Note: The Bushwakker and Scotland’s famous son, Robbie Burns share the same birthday. Given the popularity of Scottish culture showcased at The Bushwakker at the monthly First Firkin Friday and Single Malt Scotch Tasting events, it seems quite appropriate celebrate all things Scottish with a Burns-inspired big birthday celebration! Bring on the birthday cake and bring on the haggis.

January 25 marks the birthday of Robert (Robbie) Burns, a Scottish poet born in 1759 in Alloway, Scotland.

The designations assigned to January 25 are many. It’s National Irish Coffee Day, Observe the Weather Day, National Florida Day, A Room of One’s Own Day, Fluoride Day, Clashing Clothes Day and several more. But there’s one designation for January 25 rich in history, heritage and haggis — Robbie Burns Day!
January 25 marks the birthday of Robert (Robbie) Burns, a Scottish poet born in 1759 in Alloway, Scotland. His descriptions of country life and the satires he wrote — which took politicians and religious leaders to task — made him an enduring popular figure. As a child, his family struggled. His father was a tenant farmer on less-than-successful farms and as Robbie Burns grew, he also laboured on the farms. Burns published his first book of poetry in 1786. He died in 1796.
What is Burns’ most famous work?
Creating hundreds of poems, songs and letters, Burns became Scotland’s most famous poet with works that included the catchy Dec. 31 tune Auld Lang Syne.
Why does Robbie Burns get his own day?
How did fame catapult him into such elite status that Robbie Burns Day is celebrated in many parts of the world each January 25? Well, it started with a crew of about nine of his friends who gathered on the fifth anniversary of his death. They raised a glass to Burns, read some of his poems and ate haggis, deeming the gathering so successful that they decided to gather again on his birthday. They turned that event into an annual tradition that grew and grew.
Why is haggis an important part of a Burns dinner?
Burns wrote a poem in honour of his fondness for haggis and a reading of this poem — called Address to a Haggis — is usually a key part of a Burns dinner.
What is haggis?
It’s referred to as a savoury “pudding,” consisting of a sheep’s organs, including the heart, liver and lungs. The organs are mixed with onion, spices, oatmeal, stock and suet, and then encased in the animal’s stomach or artificial casing before being cooked. Because haggis used parts of the animal sometimes discarded, it was seen as a nourishing and affordable dish for poor folks.
Is Robbie Burns the greatest Scot of all time?
A TV series and public vote said that was indeed the case in 2009, with Robert Burns winning the vote. The runner-up was William Wallace. While Burns’ name has been used on streets and in towns around the world, one of the most unusual honours is this: A crater on the planet Mercury is named after Burns.
TIME OUT – Robbie Burns at The Farmyard
Robert Burns and his brother Gilbert were leaning over a farm yard wall watching the hens and the cockerel scratching about.
One of the hens gives the cockerel the eye and he starts to strut across the yard to do his manly duty.
Just then the farmer comes out and scatters seed about the yard. The cockerel stops and starts to peck at the seed.
On seeing this Rabbie turns to his brother and says, “Gilbert I pray I will never be as hungry as that.”
Robbie Burns had quite the reputation for being a real party animal. His birthday party undoubtedly would involve plenty of good ale. We suspect he would approve of our firkin of Isle of Arran Robert Burns Single Malt – Infused Robust Dark Ale which will be piped-in and tapped at 5:30 on January 25th! See you then!
