BREWERY “HOPP”ENINGS! Bushwakker head brewer, Michael Gaetz, reports our seasonally available TREPHINATION IMPERIAL IPA , LEMON RASPBERRY ALE and BREW & GOLD DORTMUNTER EXPORT LAGER are currently available. There are also batches of KAI’S MUNICH HELLES, LAPHROAIG SINGLE MALT SCOTCH & OAK-INFUSED ROBUST PORTER, DOUBLE HONEY RED ALE, 30th ANNIVERSARY BLACKBERRY MEAD and MORK’S MEAD (think waaaaaay back) currently working their way through the brewery.
Our newly released TREPHINATION IMPERIAL IPA got its unusual name as a reference to the ancient surgical method where a hole was made in the patient’s skull to relieve pressure or to release evil spirits. When this big hoppy brew made its Bushwakker debut in the mid 2000’s, it was in the midst of a global hop shortage. Our brewer at that time felt a brewer would have to have “a hole in his head” to release a bitter beast such as this at that time. Get ready hopheads, brewer Michael has employed some new hopping techniques and this big, beautiful brew is even better than ever!
Last weekend’s annual Labour Day Classic Weekend Burger Battle was a hit. Always nice to have a big splash of Blue & Gold mixed in with the Sea of Green. The Bomber Burger outsold the Rider Burger by a sizeable margin and our beloved Green & White followed suit. Bring on the Banjo Bowl!

A piper from The Regina Police Services Pipes & Drums leads a keg (the firkin) of special ale throughout the pub in a procession. A guest volunteer tapper is selected to wield the handmade wooden maul affectionately named, The Mighty Firkin Wakker, and attempts to tap the keg in one mighty blow! ‘We’re still open’: Businesses feeling financial fallout of Dewdney Avenue revitalization construction

Bushwakker Brewpub says construction on Dewdney Avenue is keeping customers away.
“We knew there was going to be some challenges associated with the Dewdney Avenue revitalization project,” Bar Manager Grant Frew told CTV News. “But we didn’t realize we’d be facing these types of challenges.”
Still dealing with the fallout of the pandemic and rising costs, Frew believes the road signage creates the perception businesses are closed during construction.
“[Customers] see all the pylons and road closed signs and they just want to avoid the area at all costs,” he said. “But the road isn’t closed. It’s restricted.”
The Railyards Revitalization project started construction in April.
Scheduled to take two years to complete, it seeks to turn Dewdney Avenue into an entertainment district more welcoming to pedestrian traffic.
“It’s going to create something all these businesses can utilize,” Mayor Sandra Masters said. “Whether its patios, lighting, crosswalks or new trees. It’s going to look so much better.”
Mayor Masters acknowledged the success of the project relies on the businesses already there.
“There’s so much going on in the Warehouse District,” she added. “We really want to make sure we continue to support them.”
The city has added a free parking space for customers.
However, Masters believes there could be more to help remind people the business remain open during construction, especially ahead of a busy Labour Day weekend in Regina.
“If folks are asking where to go and meet, keep them in mind,” she reiterated.
Frew is excited for the finished product but worries his business may not be around to reap the benefits.
“Two years is a long time,” he said. “I’m not waving the white flag and putting out an SOS yet. But it’s definitely been a challenge.”
“[We] are still open,” Frew added.
Bushwakker added they are looking forward to winter and the end of the construction season, anticipating business will return to normal when the snow falls and pylons are removed until next year.

TIME OUT – The Norwegian Diet
Ole and Sven went to the doctor to get a diet plan. The doctor told them, “I want you to eat regularly for two days, then skip a day, and repeat this procedure for two weeks. The next time I see you, you should have lost at least five pounds.”
When the Norwegians returned, they shocked their doctor by having lost nearly 25 pounds each!
“Why, that’s positively amazing!” the doctor said. “Did you follow my instructions properly?”
Then Ole and Sven nodded in unison and said, “Yah, yah ve did”
“We vant to tell you though, we taut we was gonn adrop dead dat terd day.”
“From hunger, you mean?” said the Doctor. ”No, no Doc, yust from all dat damn skippin!”
