BREWERY “HOPP”ENINGS! Bushwakker head brewer, Michael Gaetz, reports our seasonally available CYCLONE BALREYWINE, BREW & GOLD DORTMUNTER EXPORT LAGER, CITRUS SUMMER WHEAT, CHERRY LIME ALE and GALAXY S.M.A.S.H. ALE are currently available. There are also batches of TREPHINATION IMPERIAL IPA, LEMON RASPBERRY ALE and DOUBLE HONEY RED ALE currently working their way through the brewery.

The Riders host the Edmonton Elks this Saturday night! Will Chef Mike’s ELK BURGER & a PINT game day special really contain elk? Stop by before or after the game and find out!

This Weekend’s SPECIAL DINING FEATURE for August 2nd & 3rd is a SMOKED TOMAHAWK PORK CHOP. Our Saturday CLASSIC STEAK & A PINT SPECIAL as well as our Monday and Wednesday WINGS & A PINT SPECIAL and Tuesday PIZZA & A PINT SPECIAL are also great value deals.

Our SASK CRAFT GUEST TAP is currently pouring the GEM NEIPA from High Key Brewing. Next up is PASSION FRUIT SESSION ALE from Paddock Wood Brewing which will be followed by the 2024 Saskatchewan Craft Brewery Association’s DUNKELWEIZEN collaboration beer.

AUGUST PREMIUM WINE FEATURES: This month’s wine features hail from Italy. The red is the BOLLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO. The white is the OGIO PINOT GRIGIO. Both are $8.95 for a glass and $23.95 for a half litre.

UPCOMING BUSHWAKKER EVENTS

Aug. 2: FIRST FIRKIN FRIDAY. Enjoy the pomp and circumstance of this longstanding Bushwakker monthly tradition! A piper from The Regina Police Services Pipes & Drums leads a keg (the firkin) of special ale throughout the pub in a procession. A guest volunteer tapper is selected to wield the handmade wooden maul affectionately named, The Mighty Firkin Wakker, and attempts to tap the keg in one mighty blow! This month’s super summer firkin offering will be an AUSTRALIAN ECLIPSE DRY-HOPPED LIGHT LAGER and will be tapped by a visitor from Australia! The suds-soaking spectacular takes place at 5:30 PM.

Aug. 3: RIDERS VS. ELKS. Saturday night football in Regina! The football contest kicks off at 5:00 PM so stop by before or after the game. Come park your vehicle in the massive free parking lot just east across the street, enjoy our gourmet game day ELKS BURGER & A PINT Special and then grab a free shuttle to the stadium. Come “devour” the competition!

Aug. 5: CLOSED FOR THE HOLIDAY. Happy Saskatchewan Day! Be sure to stock up on some cool Bushwakker brews to celebrate the long weekend.

What’s the Olympics without a beer?

It’s hard to disassociate a major European sporting event from a good beer. Brands like Heineken and Carlsberg usually are one of the main sponsors, they run good television advertisements and spectators love them. I have grown up watching UEFA Champions League Football with Heineken advertisements. That’s how things have been for ages but not anymore, at least not in the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024.

This time around, France banned alcohol sales in Olympic games. Spectators can have them in bars and restaurants but not in stadiums and near venues where the games are planned.

Isn’t it bad news for beer brewers? Not quite. They have turned to promoting non-alcoholic beers: alcohol or not, beer is must. In fact, one of the official sponsors of this edition of Olympics is ABInBev, the world’s leading brewer, which is promoting its Corona Cero zero-alcohol beer. Here is the official communication in this regard.

“The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today announced that AB InBev, the world’s leading brewer, will become a Worldwide Olympic Partner (TOP Partner) through to 2028. Corona Cero zero-alcohol beer will be the global beer sponsor of the Olympic Games, highlighting the IOC and AB InBev’s commitment to responsible consumption and building a better world. Together, they will reach billions of Olympic fans around the world with messages of connection, moderation, and celebration.”

I am not sure if fans would love this, but anyway the economic point here is that the worldwide sales of non-alcoholic beer are growing at around 3% per annum, while the alcoholic beers are growing at around 0.3% per annum. Globally, the non-alcoholic beer business is estimated to be about $13 billion.

Yesterday, I was cooking dinner, and my son came up to me and said, “One day I will work and help you with the bills, the groceries, and the house expenses.” My eyes started to tear up. My baby will be 32 next month.
