BREWERY “HOPP”ENINGS: Bushwakker Head brewer, Michael Gaetz, reports that our brand new seasonally available CARA CARA ORANGE BLONDE and HARVEST OKTOBERFEST LAGER are currently available on tap, in our offsale and for growler fills too. There are batches of THREE DOWN PILSNER, BLACKBERRY MEAD, PICKARD’S OATMEAL CREAM STOUT and “MISSILE”TOW ALE working their way through the brewery. In addition to taking our beer home in glass bottles and 2 litre jugs direct from our brewpub, you can find a varying selection of 650 ml bottles of Bushwakker beer in a number of REGINA SLGA stores.

 


Our newest seasonal fruit beer is infused with a whopping 168 pounds of Cara Cara Oranges. This particular orange is reputed as being the most nutritious orange of all. Jam-packed with vitamins! This Weekend’s November 11th & 12th Special Dining Feature starting at 5:00 PM on Friday is Chef Mike’s famous low and slow oven-roasted PRIME RIB served with JUMBO YORKSHIRE PUDDING.  We plan to make our prime rib dinners available every weekend into the new year. Our Saturday CLASSIC STEAK & A PINT SPECIAL will also be available. Our Monday and Wednesday WINGS & A PINT SPECIAL and Tuesday PIZZA & A PINT SPECIAL are also great value deals.

Our SASK CRAFT GUEST TAP is currently pouring the SPACE CADET IPA from Regina’s Pile O’ Bones Brewing. Next up is an OATMEAL STOUT from Nokomis Craft Ales. This will be followed by the RACE YOU TO THE FUTURE DOUBLE NEW ENGLAND IPA from Malty National Brewing.

NOVEMBER PREMIUM WINE FEATURES  This month’s wine features are the  PAUL MAS ESTATE WINES from France. The red is their Malbec and the white is their Valmont Blanc.  Both are $8.50 for a glass and $22.95 for a half litre.

The Bushwakker LOCAL ARTS WALL November Featured Artist is SHAUNA PERFECT. Her artist biography is as follows:

Born and raised in Regina, art has always been a big part of my family in many different mediums. I grew up watching my dad make metal sculptures and decided many years ago that I wanted to give it a try. I went to school to learn the basics and am now a part time welder. I also work here at The Bushwakker as one of the front of house supervisors. Most of the material I use is scrap metal I’ve gathered from various locations or from my dad’s garage. Sometimes I’ll have an idea of what I want to create but other times I just sort of lay the pieces out in front of me and let them decide.

It was a treat to bring back the BUSHWAKKER WRITER’S CORNER READING EVENT after a three year pandemic-induced hiatus. Much thanks to local authors; Donna Gartshore, Brian Bowman, Pam Bustin (a former Bushwakker server and current current Regina Public Library Writer in Residence) and Tara Gereaux for their readings of their works. Hats off to Bushwakker assistant pastry chef, Justin Seitz, for creating the event dessert feature, a Strawberry Fairy Dust Cheesecake!

Nov. 10: SCIENCE PUB: MESMERIZING MATH – Erdos-Ko – Rado, How I Love You So. Our wildly popular Science Pub Series has returned for a 10th incredible season. Enjoy lectures on scientific topics of general interest in our Arizona Room over fine craft beer and award-winning pub cuisine. The room opens at 5:00 PM. Avoid disappointment and come down early for dinner and a pint before the presentation which begins at 7:00 PM. This month’s lecture will be presented by Dr. Karen Meagher from the University of Regina Mathematics & Statistics Department. In this talk I will introduce my favourite theorem, the Erdos-Ko-Rado theorem. This theorem describes the largest collection of subsets (all of the same size) you can build with the extra condition that any two of the subsets have at least one element in common. I will show how this theorem gives us an efficient way to test if a network of switches is working properly. Beyond applications, this is a very famous theorem that is a corner stone result in an area of math called “extremal set theory”. One of the reasons that I like this theorem is that there are many different proofs that use different types of math and there are many generalizations and extensions.  I will outline some of these different approaches and generalizations in my talk.

Nov. 14: THREE DOWN PILSNER COMMEMORATIVE BEER RELEASE. The Bushwakker has been in operation long enough to have seen all four Grey Cups hosted in Regina. We are very excited to once again release our special brew honouring Canadian football and Canadian football fans. Our 100% malted barley pilsner is a Czech-style lager which was brewed a number of months ago for maximum aging time. Only one batch is brewed when Regina hosts the Grey Cup. Limited number of bottles available. Makes for a fine Saskatchewan football championship keepsake!

 

Nov. 14: GREY CUP WEEK “BEE”LIEVE BUNDLE. We stowed away a limited number of our famous 2021 Bushwakker Blackberry Mead for all you football fans coming to Regina from across the nation. Enjoy our world class honey nectar with our commemorative Three-Down Pilsner in either a Two-Bottle Bundle or a Six-Bottle Bundle! Makes for a great Grey Cup keepsake or Christmas gift!

 


Nov. 14: Monday Night Jazz & Blues – Special Edition. PRODIGALS QUARTET. Presented in conjunction with The Regina Jazz Society. One of the biggest Bushwakker live music events of the year! Prodigals Quartet is a brand new Quartet to Regina. They are new because this will be the first time this group has been put together in this configuration. Three of the players are outstanding Saskatchewan musicians.  Donny Kennedy is originally from Regina and has just recently returned this fall to Regina after a 25+ year career as a professor at McGill University attaining a Master’s Degree in jazz performance with high distinction in jazz saxophone.  Donny is active as a performer playing in versions of his own quintet and sextet and with many others including a list of the “who’s who” in jazz. Also originally from Regina, Derek Friesen, studied at McGill University as the top graduate selection for the Ray Hnatyshyn – Oscar Peterson scholarship for top graduating high school musicians.  Derek also graduated from The Berklee College of Music in Boston on a full tuition scholarship and has received a Master’s Degree from the New England Conservatory with high honours.  Additionally, Derek has performed in over 65 countries playing with the best of the best in jazz.  In 2020 Derek graduated from the James Cook University in Australia with a degree in Dentistry and currently practices alongside his father at Landmark Dental in Regina. After touring and playing throughout Canada early in his career, Chris Wallace moved to Scotland to teach as the head tutor at Stevenson College in Edinburgh. From there Chris toured and played on five continents with every imaginable genre of music and all the best players on the jazz scene including a stint in New York with such outstanding drummers as Joe Farnsworth and Willie Jones III.  After the better part of a decade in Toronto and once again recording with anyone and everyone of significant status, Chris has returned to Saskatchewan where he teaches while living in Fort Qu’Appelle. The final quartet member is Josh Rager who is a keyboardist, arranger and composer teaching jazz studies at Concordia University in Montreal.  Josh has played and toured all over North America and Europe including recording with Nikki Yanoffsky at Carnegie Hall.  Josh is one of the new breeds of Quebec musicians offering up a sweet, smoky, fast-paced brand of fusion and up-tempo jazz.

This is Regina’s newest, hippest and swingiest group to open Regina Jazz Society’s 2022 – 23 annual regular jazz programming. Nov. 16: Wednesday Folk Night. FAR FROM ANYWHERE.  Local trio with melodic rich harmonies delivers covers by The John Butler Trio, Ben Howard, Iron and Wine and more. 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM.

 


Nov. 20: GREY CUP SUNDAY. We will open for this Canadian Football Championships game day. Special Grey Cup Burger Battle menu will be available!

 


Nov. 26: THE 32nd BUSHWAKKER SINGLE MALT SCOTCH TASTING. One of our biggest events of the entire year is back after a three-year hiatus! Experience six special order Scottish delights complete with commentary from the masters of ceremonies. Entertainment includes a Highland dancing demonstration as well as a performance from the Regina Police Services Pipes & Drums. Plenty of fine door prizes too. Optional scotch-inspired meal also available immediately prior to the tasting. Tickets are $89.95 each.

We are open Monday – Thursday from 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM. The kitchen closes at 9:00 PM and last call is at 9:15 PM.

NEW WEEKEND HOURS! Fridays and Saturdays we are open from 11:00 AM until midnight. The kitchen is open until 11:00 PM and last call is at 11:15 PM.

Reservations are accepted and encouraged. We accept a limited number of reservations as late as 6:00 PM every day except Fridays. Fridays we accept reservations as late as 3:00 PM. Beer Trends Explained Through Data

A recent study found and published on Analytics Insight revealed that data can provide valuable insight into what’s happening in the world of craft beer, mainly through four different references: Consumer habits, IPA losing traction, technology and the emergence of Belgium Ales.

IPA Is Losing Traction

One style of brew that has always dominated is the IPA. However, it seems that the popularity of IPAs might be starting to drop. Many beer drinkers are beginning to find the taste of hops overwhelming, and are instead opting for maltier, more balanced styles of beer. As a result, some breweries are starting to focus on producing other types of beer, and the once-dominant IPA might soon be relegated to a niche market.

Crowds Are Becoming Health Conscious

It is no secret that the shift in drinking beer has gone towards the more health-conscious side; from low-to-no-cal beers and seltzers and everything else in between.

As a result, many breweries are now offering healthier alternatives to traditional craft beer, such as kombucha and CBD-infused drinks. As a result of this trend, breweries are seeing an uptick in sales, as health-conscious consumers are increasingly interested in trying new types of craft beer.

Technology

The brewing industry never really relied on technology to brew, but now, data-driven solutions allow brewers to control every aspect of the process, from mash temperature to yeast strain. As a result, craft beer lovers can enjoy a wider variety of flavours than ever before.

This data has helped optimize the brewing process and ensure a consistent product. As a result, craft breweries are able to produce beer that is of the highest quality and consistency. And thanks to these new fermentation monitoring systems, they can do so with less waste and fewer resources. These trends are captured on Untappd’s blog and shed light on the future of craft beers.

The Belgian Emergence

These craft beers are more flavorful and complex than the mass-produced varieties, and they are quickly gaining popularity all over the world, including in the US and Australia.


TIME OUT

A lady goes to the bar on a cruise ship and orders a Scotch with two drops of water.

As the bartender gives her the drink she says, “I’m on this cruise to celebrate my 80th birthday and it’s today…”

The bartender says, “Well, since it’s your birthday, I’ll buy you a drink. In fact, this one is on me.”

As the woman finishes her drink, the woman to her right says, “I would like to buy you a drink, too.”

The old woman says, “Thank you. Bartender, I want a Scotch with two drops of water.”
“Coming up,” says the bartender.

As she finishes that drink, the man to her left says, “I would like to buy you one, too.”

The old woman says, “Thank you. Bartender, I want another Scotch with two drops of water.”
“Coming right up,” the bartender says.

As he gives her the drink, he says, “Ma’am, I’m dying of curiosity, why the Scotch with only two drops of water?”
The old woman replies, “Sonny, when you’re my age, you’ve learned how to hold your liquor. Holding your water, however, is a whole other issue.”
