NEWS FROM THE BREWERY! Head brewer, Michael Gaetz, reports our seasonally available TWO SON’S MILK STOUT, BOW PROJECT AMARILLO S.M.A.S.H., FLEK’S CZECH DARK LAGER, PICKARD’S OATMEAL STOUT, and PONCE DE LEON FRUIT ALE are currently on tap. There are also batches of PREMIUM PALE ALE, BOMBAY IPA and BARON BOCK working their way through the brewery.

Our GUEST TAP is pouring a Honey Hemp Ale from Saskatoon’s Prairie Sun Brewing. Next up is the Neapolitan Milk Stout from Regina’s Malty National Brewing.

Our April premium wine features are the PAINTED WOLF WINES from South Africa. The white is a Chenin Blanc and the red is a Cabernet Sauvignon. Both are $7.95 for a glass and $21.95 for a half litre.

The BUSHWAKKER LOCAL ARTIST WALL for the month of April features a special showcase of two of our very talented staff!  This collaborative effort between friends and co-workers Shauna Perfect and Quin C. Greig explores organic forms and symbolism from the natural world. Each artist employs their unique perspective and specialized skill set to the subject, demonstrating significantly differing approaches harmonizing in their shared focus.

Quin C. Greig was born in Swan River, Manitoba in 1988 and was raised on a remote acreage. Now a practicing interdisciplinary artist, Quin received her Bachelor of Fine Arts with distinction from the University of Regina in 2013. While experienced working in multiple artistic mediums, she specializes in watercolor drawings. Deeply interested in myth and magic, she is simultaneously, and just as importantly, influenced by the people and events she encounters in her daily life. Quin has spent years refining her signature style of line work, and has been commissioned for a myriad of projects on behalf of private individuals. Quin currently divides her time between her home studio and The Bushwakker Brewing Company where she has worked as a server since 2011.

Shauna Perfect was born and raised in Regina. Art has always been a big part of her family in many different mediums. She grew up watching her dad make metal sculptures and decided many years ago that she wanted to give it a try. Shauna went to school to learn the basics and is now an apprentice welder. She currently works at the Bushwakker and is also in her third and final year of school at SIIT.

Most of the material she uses is scrap metal she has gathered from various locations or from her father’s garage. Sometimes she will have an idea of what she wants to create but other times she just lays the pieces out in front of her and let them decide.

Apr. 15: Monday Night Jazz & Blues. THE JAZZ BAND-ITS. The biggest band to grace the Bushwakker stage plays big band, jazz and swing. 8:00 PM.

Apr. 17: Wednesday Night Folk. THE RED WAGON GYPSIES. Acapella/ acoustic harmonies from Angela Ell (who will be celebrating her birthday) and Tamara Scrimbit. It doesn’t get “folkier” than this! 8:00 PM.

Apr. 19: Open at noon on Good Friday.

Apr. 22: Monday Night Jazz & Blues. THE TERRY QUINNY QUINTET. Former Regina jazz saxman returns home from the UK for a special jazz show with a few interesting twists! 8:00 PM.

Apr. 22 – 27: THE 26TH ANNUAL ALES OPEN. A record 800 entries from all across Canada will be judged in this year’s homebrewing competition. Approximately 100 volunteers will be working away all week in the Bushwakker basement clubroom.

Apr. 24: Wednesday Night Folk. JAMES IRVING. Nickletree frontman returns to deliver some roots rock. 8:00 PM.

Apr. 27: ANNUAL BUSHWAKKER BREWER’S DINNER. The signature event of The Bushwakker Brewpub! A four-course meal in which each dish utilizes a unique beer as an ingredient and is paired with a unique half pint of beer  to enhance the flavours of the food.  This year’s fun and festive dinner theme will be MARDI GRAS! Court Rules That MillerCoors Infringes on Stone Brewing Co. Trademark

According to a recent release from Stone Brewing Co. in Escondido, California, the courts have ruled in Stone’s favor in the company’s lawsuit against MillerCoors regarding the latter’s use of STONE in the company’s branding of KeyStone Light beer.

The court confirmed “Stone’s mark to be commercially strong and recognizable,” and deserving of “strong protection.” Here is a full excerpt from the court’s ruling via Stone’s release:

the Court agrees [with Stone], especially considering the marks incontestability, STONE® is entitled to the strong protection afforded to suggestive marks.  Since Stone and Miller both produce a beer which is distributed nationally, a consumer is likely to encounter both within close proximity of the other, making it is reasonable to consider Miller a direct competitor of Stone … Taking all the factors into account, the Court finds that Stone’s trademark infringement claim against Miller is moderately strong.”

ESCONDIDO, CA – Score one for true independent craft beer today as the #TrueStonevsKeystone lawsuit continues.  On Tuesday, March 26, the Court issued its order regarding Stone’s preliminary injunction motion against one of the world’s largest beer conglomerates, MillerCoors.  It confirmed “Stone’s mark to be commercially strong and recognizable,” deserving of “strong protection.”

Miller Coors is infringing on the brewery’s trademark rights.

What does this positive ruling mean for Stone and craft beer? It means that MillerCoors’ Keystone cans are likely to confuse consumers, infringe on Stone’s trademark, and will likely be forced to undergo a rebrand after the case goes to trial.  In short, Stone is that much closer to protecting its good name, reputation and brand integrity.

While the Court did not order a preliminary injunction, it found that the issue was one for trial, where Stone looks forward to presenting evidence of the significant impact that MillerCoors’ campaign has had on the craft brewery – and the massive sales which Keystone has accumulated since reviving itself using Stone’s trademark.”

“This is a very big deal,” stated Greg Koch, Stone Brewing executive chairman & co-founder. “The Court’s order confirms what we knew: that MillerCoors should be ashamed of what they have been doing. All along this has been a clear-cut infringement case, and now we can focus our resources on proving the significant damages done to the good name of Stone Brewing.”  He concluded:  “To any believer in independent, craft beer, today is a good day. All we ask is that you keep #TrueStonevsKeystone on your mind, and true Stone in your fridge.”

CEO Dominic Engels added:  “We are pleased that the Court recognized the validity of Stone’s infringement claims.  MillerCoors has made hundreds of millions of dollars from rebranding Keystone in a way that infringes on our trademark. It also has hurt Stone and our brand.  We look forward to presenting this evidence to the Court at trial.”  He added: “We entered this litigation to obtain permanent protection against future misuse of our brand.  The Court’s holding is a win for Stone and we look forward to presenting these issues to a jury in San Diego.”

Stone filed suit against MillerCoors in February 2018 after MillerCoors tried to rebrand its Colorado Rockies-themed “Keystone” beer as “STONE.” The company had no choice but to combat MillerCoors’ aggressive marketing moves, which abandon Keystone’s own heritage by falsely associating with the one true STONE®.  Stone announced the bold move by video last year and continues to wave a flag of independence, vowing never to sell out to Big Beer.


A man walks into a restaurant with a full-grown ostrich behind him.

As he sits, the waitress comes over and asks for their orders.

The man says, “I’ll have a hamburger, fries and a coke,” and turns to the ostrich, “What’s yours?”

“I’ll have the same,” says the ostrich.

A short time later the waitress returns with the order. “That will be $6.40 please,” and the man reaches into his pocket and pulls out the exact change for payment.
The next day, the man and the ostrich come again and the man says, “I’ll have a hamburger, fries and a coke,” and the ostrich says, “I’ll have the same.”

Once again the man reaches into his pocket and pays with exact change.

This becomes a routine until late one evening, the two enter again.

“The usual?” asks the waitress. “No, this is Friday night, so I will have a steak, baked potato and salad,” says the man, “same for me,” says the ostrich.

A short time later the waitress comes with the order and says, “That will be $12.62.”Once again the man pulls exact change out of his pocket and places it on the table.

The waitress can’t hold back her curiosity any longer.

“Excuse me, sir. How do you manage to always come up with the exact change out of your pocket every time?”

“Well,” says the man, “several years ago I was cleaning the attic and I found an old lamp. When I rubbed it a Genie appeared and offered me two wishes. My first wish was that if I ever had to pay for anything, I would just put my hand in my pocket and the right amount of money would always be there.”

“That’s brilliant!” says the waitress. “Most people would wish for a million dollars or something, but you’ll always be as rich as you want for as long as you live!”

“That’s right. Whether it’s a gallon of milk or a Rolls Royce, the exact money is always there,” says the man.

The waitress asks, “One other thing, sir, what’s with the ostrich?”

The man sighs, pauses, and answers, “My second wish was for a tall chick with long legs who agrees with everything I say.”
