SCIENCE PUB – UNLOCKING SASKATCHEWAN’S GEOTHERMAL RESOURCES

Our wildly popular Science Pub Series has returned for a 12th incredible season! Enjoy lectures on scientific topics of general interest in our Arizona Room over fine craft beer and award-winning pub cuisine. The room opens at 5:00 PM. Avoid disappointment and come down early for dinner and a pint before the presentation which begins at 7:00 PM. This month’s lecture will be presented by Brian Brunskill, P. Geo. In 1979, a deep geothermal test well was drilled to the 2200 m-deep Deadwood Aquifer at the University of Regina. Interest in developing our geothermal resources throughout southern Saskatchewan has recently expanded to other urban centres, and to an area southwest of Estevan to produce electricity. As we transition to using energy sources that generate zero to low GHG emissions, deep geothermal energy can be part of this transition. Geothermal energy is a clean, reliable and sustainable resource that can meet some of southern Saskatchewan’s heating and power generation needs for many generations with very little impact on the environment.
