SCIENCE PUB – THE STATUS OF THE NUCLEAR FACILITIES IN UKRAINE
Our wildly popular Science Pub Series has returned for a 11th incredible season. Enjoy lectures on scientific topics of general interest in our Arizona Room over fine craft beer and award-winning pub cuisine. The room opens at 5:00 PM. Avoid disappointment and come down early for dinner and a pint before the presentation which begins at 7:00 PM. This month’s lecture will be presented by Dr. Esam Hussein, P.Eng, Ph.D., FCSSE, who is a nuclear engineer, professor emeritus of Engineering at both the University of Regina and the University of New Brunswick, and an adjunct professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Regina. At the end of February, 2023, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) released a report assessing the safety, security and safeguards of the nuclear facilities in Ukraine. This presentation will review the nuclear program in Ukraine, the role of the IAEA, the method used by the Agency to inspect nuclear facilities during an armed conflict, and the results of its assessment in Ukraine.
