Enjoy lectures on scientific topics of general interest in our Arizona Room over fine craft beer and award-winning pub cuisine. The room opens at 5:00 PM. Avoid disappointment and come down early for dinner and a pint before the presentation which begins at 7:00 PM. This month’s lecture will be presented by James McVittie, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics from the University of Regina. In the 21st century, information and data influence our opinions and viewpoints of phenomena in the world. The way in which data are sampled, analyzed and presented can manipulate our perceptions of some of the simplest facts of life. In this talk, we will explore some of the famous examples and analyses in the fields of probability and statistics that have led to results that were surprising, outright lies and manipulations of the truth.
